Jedinu vrednost on vidi u pristupu ruskom tržištu.

Delta in race to buy Genex property
BELGRADE -- Delta Holding will bid to buy the Belgrade-base property of Genex, it has been confirmed.

Serbia's largest privately-owned company has used its subsidiary NBG Properties to team up with American Intercontinental, to submit an offer accepted yesterday by the Privatization agency, Beta news agency has learned.

If they place the winning bid on Monday, March 31, the two companies plan to build a hotel next to the Delta headquarters, where Hotel Continental, owned by Genex, is now located.

"Volkswagen interested in Zastava"
FRANKFURT -- German financial daily Handelsblatt writes that Volkswagen is interested in the privatization of Zastava Motors.

The daily says that a definite decision has not yet been made, however.

Handelsblatt states that Volkswagen officials want to look into the matter further before taking a decision.

The daily writes that part of Zastava’s production equipment is very old, and that large investment would be needed, adding that officials at Europe’s largest automotive company visited Kragujevac over the Easter holidays.

VW is already present on the Serbian market with Volkswagen, Skoda, Audi and SEAT, with annual sales of about 52,000 vehicles, which approximately represents a 15 percent share of the market, Handelsblatt stated, adding that older generation Punto and Astra cars were already being manufactured at the Zastava factory.

However, General Motors, which owns Opel, does not have any interest in Zastava, according to its European headquarters.

Handelsblatt stated that Fiat, Ford, Tata and Chinese FAW were all interested in purchasing the company.

“Guarantees needed for highway construction”
BELGRADE -- Dragan Đilas says that construction of the Horgoš-Požega highway cannot begin until guarantees are received.

The minister responsible for the implementation of the National Investment Plan said that the government would try to find a compromise solution tomorrow to give the concessionaires more time to meet the terms stipulated in the contract signed with the government.

Trade and Industry Minister Predrag Bubalo claims that the concession contract has not fallen through.

He said that provided the concessionaires respected the agreement, construction would begin on time, but if they asked for changes to the agreement, then these had to be looked into carefully.

Đilas said that the highway was one of Serbia’s priorities, but that it was not realistic for someone to begin construction and say that they will make a financial construction by December 31, “but if I don’t make it, you can pay me for what I did, and may God help you with whatever you want to do next.”

He said that the government’s economic and financial committee had decided yesterday to discuss this question directly within the government itself.

Deputy Prime Minister Božidar Đelić stated earlier that the financial institutions which needed to secure more than EUR 1bn for the construction of the highway, were asking for the financial construction to be postponed from March 31 to December 31.

The construction of the highway is supposed to be financed by Deutsche Bank.

The deputy prime minister said that the concessionaires, Por and Alpina, had proposed that they finance the construction themselves in the first year. Đelić stated then that the government must receive a guarantee that Serbia would not lose money if the concessionaires did not have the funds to build the highway, and that in that event, their proposal would be adopted.

India's Tata buys Jaguar, Land Rover for USD 2.3 bn
NEW DELHI -- India's Tata Motors says it bought British luxury icons Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford for USD 2.3bn.

The all-cash deal is part of Tata's efforts to grow outside Asia, but analysts have questioned how the Indian firm -- maker of the Nano, the world's cheapest car -- will absorb the two high-end marques into its operations.

"We are very pleased at the prospect of Jaguar and Land Rover being a significant part of our automotive business," Tata group chairman Ratan Tata said, pledging to keep the identities of the famous brands "intact".

Tata Motors, part of the sprawling tea-to-outsourcing Tata Group empire, said the "total amount to be paid in cash" would be USD 2.3bn and added Ford would contribute up to about USD 600mn to the Jaguar and Land Rover pension plans.

The purchase, which has been the subject of speculation for months, comes amid an economic downturn which has put the squeeze on demand for prestige vehicles.

In January, Tata unveiled the Nano at a price of USD 2,500, hoping that the no-frills auto could revolutionize travel for millions in India and elsewhere.

But with the acquisition, Tata would be in the unusual position of making the cheapest car in the world as well as some of the most expensive.

Of late, tough global economic conditions have put sales of expensive cars into reverse. U.S. and European sales of Jaguar fell by over 30 percent, year-on-year, during the first two months of 2008.

"Both brands are already experiencing declining sales," said Aniket Mhatre, auto analyst at Mumbai brokerage Prabhudas Lilladher.

"The U.S. is going through a slowdown so sales (of luxury vehicles) are not going to be that good."

Tata currently controls more than half of India's truck market and nearly 20 percent of its passenger car market, and is keen to expand beyond Asia.

The company is looking at making a major technological leap by gaining access to the sophisticated engines of Land Rover and Jaguar.

Troubled U.S. giant Ford, which has lost USD 15bn over the last two years, announced it was selling the two brands last year as part of a restructuring.

But analysts have expressed concern that Tata is taking on too much debt and pension fund liabilities -- and say it may have trouble absorbing the high-cost marques into its conventional vehicle line-up.

Tata has declined comment on reports it is planning to launch a three- billion-dollar syndicated loan, much of it bridge financing, to cover its working capital needs for the purchase.

But it has announced plans to additionally raise up to one billion dollars in domestic and or foreign markets to fund its domestic and global expansion.

Tata, whose long-term credit is already rated one notch below investment grade, is seeking to raise funds in a difficult global market climate, with the U.S.-led subprime crisis making investors shun all but the safest debt.

The cost of borrowing overseas has risen sharply since last July, analysts said, when Tata's interest in the Ford luxury brands was first reported.

"It will put pressure on the ratings," said Anshukant Taneja, credit analyst at Standard and Poor's in Singapore.

Highway construction postponed?
BELGRADE -- The government has decided to postpone construction of the Horgoš-Požega highway for 90 days, B92 understands.

Concessionaires PORR and Alpine Mayreder asked for permission to self-finance construction of the highway in the first year after Deutsche Bank announced that they were unable to provide guarantees for construction within the agreed timeframe.

Earlier, Prime Minister Vojislav Koštunica said that a decision to suspend work on the Horgoš-Požega highway would be fatal for the economy.

Koštunica said the "statements that Democratic Party (DS) ministers, who make up the majority of the government, will call for a suspension of the planned work on the construction of the Horgoš-Požega highway, represent a veritable destruction of the country's development."

In a statement to the press, Koštunica said that "just a few days ago, the deputy prime minister said that work could begin immediately if the concessionaires wanted to finance the work themselves this year."

"Now we see someone has ordered the construction of the highway to be suspended, and such a decision by DS ministers brings direct and unscrupulous harm to Serbia and its inhabitants," the prime minister fumed.

"Because of this unreasonable decision, it is the DS ministers that will be held responsible for all the possible far-reaching consequences this may have on the development of our country," he declared ahead of today’s cabinet meeting, the topic of which will be the Horgoš-Požega highway concession.

"Serbia has potential to be software industry leader"
BELGRADE -- Software development should become Serbia’s next big export brand, says the owner of the ComTrade Group.

Veselin Jevrosimić, whose company is one of south-east Europe's biggest in the information and technology field, told Tanjug that this was because Serbia had some of the top experts in the industry.

“Software is a product with which Serbia can show to the world that it can work on the development of information technology solutions just as India or China have done,” Jevrosimić explained, pointing out that the state should dedicate itself to the goal of turning software development into a national brand.

Following the announcement that ComTrade are to acquire leading Slovenian software company HERMES SoftLab, which would be the first major Serbian acquisition of a Slovenian firm, Jevrosimić underlined that the merger of the ComTrade Group and HERMES SoftLab would create one of the biggest information technology groups in central and south-east Europe, a group that could provide services not only for the Balkan and European markets, but also for financially much more powerful markets, such as those of the United States or the Middle East.

"This would create a group employing more than 1,600 employees, and with an annual turnover of over EUR 300mn, of which more than EUR 100mn would be from software alone," Jevrosimić said.
