U prvoj fazi, do kraja 2011. godine, "Panasonic" će zaposliti 165 radnika, u drugoj fazi još oko 200.

Serbia readies micro-loan program
This would see loans ranging from two to three thousand euros granted to the most impoverished citizens without asking for guarantees.

On the other hand, this model must not lead to destabilization of the financial system, he noted.

Đelić spoke to reporters during a news conference where the guest of honor was Nobel Prize winner Yunus Muhammad from Bangladesh, who championed the concept.

Yunus is the founder of Grameen Bank in Bangladesh, and he explained the idea of micro-loans while visiting Belgrade.

"If you have an idea, we can give you a loan. You must work and pay us back. If you're successful - we'll give you more money. We're not asking for any collaterals. Simply put - you work, we give you the money, and they you pay it back."

Yunus said he had no doubt that his concept was always succeeding and said the percent of those who pay back their loans was as high as 99. Among those who applied for such crediting were poor residents of New York, he revealed.

Yunus reiterated that his bank was not there to make a profit, but to help the poor stand on their feet instead of being dependent on welfare.

"Trust is at the basis of everything - we believe that you can work, earn and pay back the money. The fact that you're doing better, means we are doing better. And since you're doing better, you become interested in your own capacities and you want to expand them, so you keep the door open. We open the door through which you get funds, and if you do not pay back - the door closes," he explained.

The 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner also revealed that his relations with politicians were never good, since, in his words, they prefer to hand out money without asking people to start working in return.

Another good side of his concept, Yunus says, it that it is economic-crisis proof.

"Micro-crediting is not hit by the economic crisis because we work with people, near the base line of the economy. But the crisis has certainly produced more demand since people have been losing jobs and they must work to make up for it. We are now needed more than ever," he concluded.

Meanwhile, Božidar Đelić says that although the banking system in Serbia is quite developed, it is not designed to help poor citizens spur entrepreneurship.

"In the months ahead, the priority of the Serbian government will be fight against poverty and reduction of the unemployment rate," Đelić said, adding that in the last five years, the number of Serbian citizens who are below the regional poverty threshold was reduced from 14 to about seven percent, but that due to the global economic crisis this rate has increased to 8.8 percent.

Following a considerable drop in the unemployment rate to 16.4 percent in 2009, the rate has increased to 18 percent in 2010, Đelić said.

"Therefore, the Serbian government will allocate more funds for the poor in the 2011 budget so as to help them overcome poverty for good, rather than just use the funds for consumption," he said.

The government will launch initiatives for the adoption of the law on microcredit organizations, which would give loans only to the poor, and the law on and cooperative societies which are very important both for agriculture and housing construction, he said.

Panasonic moves machines from Germany to Svilajnac - Japanese giant's plant opens on January 1
Svilajnac-based plant of Japanese Panasonic will be put in operation on January 1, while machines and director will arrive from Germany by the end of next week, daily paper Blic learns.

The Japanese should open a plant in a rented hall that belongs to German Reum, in Svilajnac's industrial zone. Together with our Ministry of Economy, Development Fund, Volksbank and the municipality of Svilajnac, the representatives of this company, which is currently struck by an internal ownership crisis, have given guarantees to Panasonic that they will be able to keep that plant in operation for 30 months.

The term for "installing" the plant of Panasonic, that is, for the delivery and installation of machines, started two days ago, but people at the Japanese company have decided to start the production on the first day of the next year.

- The Japanese set clear conditions, the first of which was to find a hall in accordance with the latest standards to rent, while another condition was the existence of a lot in the vicinity of that hall in order to be able to build their own plant on it later. Fortunately for use, such hall has been built by Reum. The hall occupies the surface of 2,500 square meters and Panasonic is going to put three production lines in operation in the first phase, one of which will be producing diodes, the other will be producing neon lights, while the third will be used for the production of plastic elements - says Svilajnac Deputy Mayor Predrag Milanovic.

A total of 250 workers of various profiles, from physical workers to electric engineers, have applied for jobs in an open competition announced by Panasonic. For the time being, the Japanese company has expressed interest in employing secondary technical school graduates, which means that they need young men to train to work by global standards.

- Panasonic is a huge project, twice bigger than Reum, both in volume and financial strength. The facility itself, which will be built on 5 ha of land provided for free by the municipality in Veliko Polje industrial zone, is worth 15 million euros, exclusive of machines. Panasonic will employ a total of 350 workers and we are doing our best to maximally provide and facilitate everything they need - Milanovic added.

In the first phase, by the end of 2011, Panasonic will employ 165 workers, while the second phase will include the employment of another 200 people.

Tenders for all building sites on Corridor 10 by end of year
Serbian Minister of Infrastructure Milutin Mrkonjic said today that the Government of Serbia would complete tender documentation by the end of the year and announce tenders for all building sites on the route of Corridor 10 - from Horgos, via Belgrade, to Dimitrovgrad, Vranje and Presevo.

- An agreement was reached with the European Investment Bank a week ago on the approval of the last tranche of 250 million euros, which will be invested in highway sections between Prosek and Crvena Reka and between Ciflik and Pirot - Mrkonjic said while touring the building sites on the northern branch of Corridor 10 and the bridge near Beska.

During the tour of the building site near Beska, on the 97th kilometer of the highway and in the vicinity of the Temerin cloverleaf interchange, he pointed out he had no complaints about the speed of the works and that the deadline set earlier for the northern branch of Corridor 10 - the end of the year, would be met.

- A delay will be justified only if the deadline for completion of "ipsylon branch" - the bypass around Subotica and the access road to Kelebija border crossing - is extended until January or February 2010 - said Mrkonjic.

He expressed satisfaction with the fact that even young civil engineers were working on such big project.
Construction of about 110 km of semi-motorway on Corridor 10 includes the section between Horgos and the 28th kilometer from the Hungarian border, the section between the 38th and the 98th kilometer of Horgos-Novi Sad road, and the section between Kelebija and Subotica (24 kilometers).
