Kinezi ulaze u srpsku Agrobanku?

China Development Bank eyes Agrobanka?
China Development Bank (CDB) is the first bank from this Far East country to express interest in entering our market. As Novosti daily learns, Agrobanka has been talking with China Development Bank about recapitalization. It cannot be specified yet whether CDB is going to be the bank of Agrobanka's choice and how big its stake in the Serbian bank could be.

People at the Ministry of Finance announce that the state will soon become the majority owner of Agrobanka, once the bank's debt is converted to a stake held by the state, so that all negotiations will then be conducted on the government level.

- The state should increase its stake to 25% and participate, together with all other shareholders, in the process of making all important decisions - says Goran Radosavljevic, state secretary in the Ministry of Finance.

- We want to increase our stake in this bank, and a decision should be made soon that no important decision can be made without us.

The state currently holds the largest stake in Agrobanka - 20.07%, whereas the second largest stake is held by Hypo Custody - 6.92%. Other owners, about 5,000 of them, are minor shareholders. Last year's recapitalization through a EUR 50 million issue of shares ended in a failure due to unfavorable financial trends in the market.

- During this year, we had several bilateral meetings with leading banks of Europe and Asia, with which we talked about the models of cooperation, including the possibility of using credit lines, as well as about recapitalization - people at Agrobanka explain.

Decision on conversion

Shareholders of Agrobanka adopted Thursday (3 November 2011) a decision on the conversion of the debt for a loan granted by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development to a stake in the bank. They also decided on that occasion to issue shares without public offering.
