Sindikati nemaju informaciju o mogućim kupcima Železare, a ni država još nije saopštila postoji li ozbiljan kandidat i konkretni pregovori.

Blast furnace at Smederevo-based steel mill back in operation after 30 days of break - 4,000 people
After nearly 30 days of break, production at Zelezara Smederevo will be restarted with the commissioning of one of the blast furnaces at that steel mill. About 4,000 workers will get back to work within the next ten days, and the March production is expected to reach the level of 78,000 tonnes.

Due to a shortage of raw materials, which were trapped on barges on the Danube or in the ports of suppliers, mainly in Burgas, aforementioned blast furnace was put in hibernation on February 10th. Normalization of navigation on the Danube has also allowed for regular supply of ore and coke, thus enabling the commissioning of the blast furnace on Wednesday, while the other furnace, which was shut down last spring, will stay idled.

This means that most workers will return to work after a paid leave. Although it was not officially confirmed, about 4,000 workers were on a temporary leave, and only those working on the maintenance of machines stayed in the plant.

There is also a plan for the activation of individual machines and production segments, and workers will be invited to get back to work in accordance with that plan. All employees should be back to their job until March 20th at the latest - says Dragan Milovanovic, president of the trade union ASNS.

However, workers now fear a new bankruptcy because the government has so far failed to find a strategic partner.

Trade unions have no information on possible buyers of Zelezara, and the state has not announced yet if there is a serious candidate.

The state is ready to earmark RSD 2 billion in the national budget for the maintenance of production at the steelworks.

Salary on time

As usual, workers received an advance payment for February on March 1st, but that was the first time after nine years of management of that steelworks by U.S. Steel that salaries for 5,400 employees were paid from the national budget.

Fiat 500 L presented in Geneva - Government of Serbia starts negotiations with several other carmake
Serbian President Boris Tadic said at the presentation of Fiat's new model in Geneva that the Serbian government would start negotiations with few other world-renowned carmakers in late March and early April, but he did not want to reveal their names.

The president admitted at the Motor Show in Geneva that the price of EUR 16,000 for Fiat 500 L was a bit too high for the domestic market.

The estimates are that Fiat's exports from Serbia may be worth between 1 and 1.3 billion euros, but Tadic's forecast is that they could reach as many as 1.5 billion euros.

Although people at Fiat announce that the production in Kragujevac should kick off in July, Serbian Minister of Economy Nebojsa Ciric said that the plant would start the production as early as mid-April.

The new model is presented in dark red, yellow, white and metallic gray. It features a six-gear transmission and a bicolor steering wheel, and its maximum speed is 210km/h.
In addition to President Tadic and Minister Ciric, the presentation of this model was also attended by Sergio Marchionne and former Minister of Economy Mladjan Dinkic.

Fiat denies plans to close two plants

Fiat on Monday denied a report it was planning to close its historic Mirafiori plant in Turin and a second factory, at Pomigliano d'Arco near Naples, Ansa news agency reported.

In a statement, Fiat said the report on the two purported closures, published by business Web site Affaritaliani.it, was "groundless", and it reserved the right to take action against false media reporting.

- There is no plan for the closure of plants in Italy - the Turin-based carmaker said.
