Underground gas storage in Banatski Dvor put into operation
An underground gas storage in Banatski Dvor was put into operation today. On that occasion, Serbian President Boris Tadic assessed that that had confirmed the correctness of the decision on strategic partnership with the company Gazprom, as well as Serbia's potential for becoming an important energy hub in southeast Europe.

Pointing to the importance of the existence of fuel storage capacities, Tadic again mentioned the problems that Serbia had experienced few years earlier, when the supply of Russian gas had been discontinued, harming both economy and households.
- I believe that Srbijagas will manage to overcome all economic difficulties, and that new investments will be made in the development of the energy sector in the following period, not only in the domain of oil and gas, but also in the field of electricity generation - said Tadic.

On his tour of the gas storage in Banatski Dvor, President Tadic was accompanied by Chairman of the Gazprom Managing Board Alexey Miller and Srbijagas CEO Dusan Bajatovic.

As Tadic announced, he will today speak with Miller about future cooperation between Serbia and Gazprom, as well as about the implementation of the Nord Stream Pipeline project.
Banatski Dvor has the capacity of 450 million cubic meters. This facility should ensure safe supply of fuel to consumers in Serbia, and it also intended for storing natural gas from Russia.

Cooperation between companies Gazprom and Srbijagas in the construction of Banatski Dvor gas storage commenced in 2008 when an interstate agreement on cooperation in the oil and gas industries was signed, whereas an agreement on the formation of a joint venture was concluded in October 2009.

Gazprom's stake in that joint venture amounts to 51%, whereas Srbijagas holds a 49% stake in that company.
