DINKIC: Russians to buy 75-percent stake in Zelezara Smederevo

A tender for a stake in Zelezara Smederevo steelworks will be launched this week and, as it has been agreed with a Russian company, the state will keep 25 percent of shares in that steel mill, said Serbian Finance and Economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic.

- Negotiations with a large Russian company are almost over, and the state will keep a 25-percent stake in the Smederevo-based steelworks in accordance with an agreement that the two sides have reached - Dinkic told the daily Blic.

According to his words, the tender will be launched "because a large Russian company has expressed a strong interest in putting the steel mill back in operation and investing in some brand new capacities in Smederevo."

Dinkic voiced his belief that the production at that Smederevo-based steelworks would be restarted by the year's end.

DINKIC: Deficit to drop to 1 percent by 2015

Serbian Finance and Economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic stated that the budget deficit would be reduced to 1 percent by 2015.

Dinkic told the daily Blic that the budget deficit would be halved during the next year by means of fiscal consolidation measures recently adopted.

- Expenditures will be cut through elimination of the own-source revenues of ministries, agencies and funds and more rational planning of their spending - Dinkic said and added that subsidies, budget loans and material and administrative costs of the state would be trimmed.

- Our ministry will reduce subsidies and budget loans by as much as RSD 6 billion - Dinkic noted.

Speaking about new investments, Dinkic stressed that the interest in investing in Serbia had increased abruptly over the last month. Dinkic did not want to name the companies interested in investing in our country, but he said that the government was close to signing an agreement for an investment in renewable sources of energy.
