NIS: We strictly comply with regulations of countries we operate in
Following the launch of a criminal investigation of four NIS Petrol employees in Romania on suspicion of disclosure of confidential data about the countrys mineral reserves, the oil company Naftna industrija Srbije (NIS) said it strictly complied with local regulations of countries it operated in.
BELGRADE/BUCHAREST - Following the launch of a criminal investigation of four NIS Petrol employees in Romania on suspicion of disclosure of confidential data about the countrys mineral reserves, the oil company Naftna industrija Srbije (NIS) said it strictly complied with local regulations of countries it operated in.

In a statement sent to Tanjug, NIS said it would fully cooperate with all Romanian authorities.

"The basic principle of NISs operations is strict compliance with applicable legal regulations of countries it operates in. The company has been cooperating and will fully cooperate with all authorities to clarify all aspects related to the activities of the company and its employees in Romania," the statement said.

Romanian authorities said on Monday four employees of the Romanian unit of Serbia-based NIS Petrol were under criminal investigation on suspicion of disclosure of business information.

According to an official statement, prosecutors for organised crime said police had raided the units offices in Bucharest and Timisoara, as well as the employees homes, seizing several documents and data storage media.

Eight people have been apprehended for questioning by the Directorate for Investigating Organised Crime and Terrorism, with criminal indictments filed against four employees, who are foreign and Romanian nationals.

The four are alleged to have sent non-public information about Romanian mineral reserves to the Serbian mother company.

Quoting reports by local media, AP has said the four suspects were Moldovan nationals who were senior representatives of the Romanian unit of NIS Petrol.

Serbia sold the majority stake in the state-owned oil company NIS to Russias Gazprom Neft in 2008.

Commenting on the raids, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said they had nothing to do with Serbia and that Belgrade would request information about the case from Romania.

"This has nothing to do with the energy war, but with a political and espionage war, so that some who are considered to be disobedient can be disciplined additionally. That said, I am not ruling out the possibility of real blame on the part of NIS, but I have not dealt with that. I know there are no Serbian nationals (involved) - it (the company) is Russian-owned, and we will request information from our Romanian friends," Vucic told Pink TV in Budapest on Monday.
