BELGRADE - Serbia registered a 34 bln dinar budget deficit between January and April 2023, which is 55.7 bln dinars better than the planned 89.7 bln dinars, the Ministry of Finance has announced.

Revenues totalled 562.4 bln dinars, while expenditures amounted to 596.4 bln dinars.

A 5.4 bln dinar deficit was registered in April, it said in a statement.

April revenues amounted to 140.4 bln dinars, with tax revenues totalling 126.1 bln dinars.

VAT and excise duties made up most of the tax revenues, totalling 66.7 bln dinars and 26.8 bln dinars, respectively, while non-tax revenues amounted to 13.9 bln dinars and donations stood at 0.4 bln dinars.

Expenditures totalled 145.8 bln dinars.

Expenditures for employees totalled 33.1 bln dinars, transfers to the pension and disability insurance fund, the national health insurance fund, the military social insurance fund and the national employment service totalled 20.7 bln dinars, with capital expenditures and expenditures for procurement of financial property (budget loans) at 22.8 bln dinars and 14 bln dinars, respectively.

At general government level, a 23.5 bln dinar fiscal deficit and a 37.3 bln dinar primary fiscal surplus were registered in the first four months of 2023, the ministry also said.
