Web3 and Blockchain Technologies Selected for First Serbian Supercluster
The project Serbia Innovates, which is carried out by ICT Hub, with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), presents the consortium Excellent 3 – THE FIRST SERBIAN SUPERCLUSTER. In a test environment, consortiums in four technological domains were formed which, in the past year, have carried out various activities in order to improve the development of the local economic system, the organizers announced. Now, during the two-day final presentations, they showed their work, results and potentials to the expert jury.

The international jury consisted of experts in technological entrepreneurship and innovations: Afonso Rebelo de Sousa, an expert for corporate innovations, entrepreneurship and transfer technologies, Anne Lalou, the president of the French Innovation Factory, as well as Dan Herman, an adviser for Startup Genome, but also an adviser of the Canadian government for initiatives directed at the building of an innovation ecosystem. They made the decision taking into consideration all the important criteria for a long-term sustainability of a supercluster.

USAID Mission director, Brooke Isham, congratulated all the organizations that took part in the pilot phase of the project.

– I would like to congratulate all the pilot superclusters in Serbia for their impressive work in the past year, which has shown Serbia’s great potential in technological innovations. All of us at USAID are thrilled to continue cooperating with the winner, Excellent 3, in order to make Serbia a global leader in the field of web3 and blockchain technologies. But we also believe that the cooperation and partnerships that have been established with the pilot superclusters for biotechnology, agriculture and gaming have set firm foundations for competing in global markets successfully.

– All four consortiums have shown great readiness and potential to jointly launch a wave of the desired changes in the economic system of Serbia. In a short amount of time, they have achieved results which prove that, with adequate systems support and sector cooperation, Serbia has enough industrial talent and opportunities to become a global leader in these domains. The title of the first Serbia supercluster belongs to a supercluster from the domain of web3 and blockchain technologies, Excellent 3. The expert jury reached this decision based on the demonstrated potential, a positive global reputation of our companies in this domain and the possibility a wide application of these technologies in other industries. All these factors combined make the supercluster Excellent 3 the most promising choice for long-term sustainability and growth – said Aleksandra Popovic, the director of the Serbia Innovates project.

– We are looking forward to the further cooperation with Serbia Innovates and the development path, primarily through the next two years of working on the project, as well as in the subsequent individual work, when our goal is to set the path toward Serbia’s global leadership in this domain. We believe that we have made an important step forward in an efficient transformation of this domain and that significant results are yet to follow – stated Glorija Martinovic, the manager of Excellent 3 supercluster.

Within the Serbia Innovates project, four dominant industries have been detected, in which consortiums, pilot superclusters, have been formed: High Technology in Agriculture and Food Industry, Gaming Environment and Virtual Reality, Web 3 and Blockchain Technologies and Advanced Solutions in Medical Technology and Biotechnology. After a year of working with four pilot superclusters, the Serbia Innovates project will support the web3 and blockchain technology supercluster Excellent 3 over the next two years in their efforts to place Serbia in the center of global events in this innovative field.
